About Me

A Clean House Is a Healthy House

My mother always kept a very clean house, so when she began neglecting her house cleaning, I knew something was wrong. She told me that her arthritis was making it tough for her to clean, but that she "didn't care" and that she would just "live with the dirt." I offered to clean her house many times, but she always told me no and that the dirt didn't bother her. When I noticed her sneezing from the dust in her home one day, I decided to research the health effects of a dirty house and print it all off to show her. After I left the papers with her overnight, she then let me hire a cleaning service to clean her house! I know there are others out there in a similar situation, so I want to share my research and cleaning tips with anyone who needs them!

How To Clean Your Floors Naturally

If you don't like the idea of using harsh chemicals to clean your home, you can use some more natural solutions to clean your carpet. This way, you know you are cleaning with something that won't pose a possible health risk to your family and/or your pets. Try one or more of the solutions detailed in this article to clean your hard floors and carpets without harsh chemicals.

Cleaning your linoleum

You can make a solution to clean your linoleum by mixing two gallons of hot water with a half cup of white vinegar and a cap full of baby oil. Mix the solution together in a bucket and use your mop to clean the linoleum as you normally would. This solution will clean the linoleum and the small amount of baby oil will help to give it a little extra shine.

Cleaning your tile

A good solution for your tile flooring can be made by combining two gallons of hot water with a tablespoon of baking soda, a tablespoon of liquid dish soap and a half cup of vinegar. Mix the water, baking soda and vinegar first. Once you have stirred them together, you want to add in the dish soap and stir a little more. Use the solution to mop your floor as usual.

Tip: Make sure you don't add more dish soap than specified or it can leave a slightly sticky residue and streaks on the floor.

Cleaning your hard wood

To clean your hard wood floors you want to mix two gallons of hot water with a half cup of lemon juice and a half cup of vinegar. Mop the floor with the solution going with the grain. Once the solution dries, you will no longer smell the vinegar and will be left with clean hard wood floors and the slight scent of fresh citrus.

Cleaning your carpet

To clean your carpet without harsh chemicals, you can mix two gallons of very hot water with a cup of white vinegar and a half cup of lemon juice. Pour the solution into your carpet cleaner and use it to clean the carpet. You may want to open your windows until the carpet dries since the smell of the vinegar may be a bit overwhelming. As the carpet dries, the smell will go away and you'll be left with a hint of the lemon smell. If your stains are really tough, you might want to try a company like All Around Town Carpet Care
