About Me

A Clean House Is a Healthy House

My mother always kept a very clean house, so when she began neglecting her house cleaning, I knew something was wrong. She told me that her arthritis was making it tough for her to clean, but that she "didn't care" and that she would just "live with the dirt." I offered to clean her house many times, but she always told me no and that the dirt didn't bother her. When I noticed her sneezing from the dust in her home one day, I decided to research the health effects of a dirty house and print it all off to show her. After I left the papers with her overnight, she then let me hire a cleaning service to clean her house! I know there are others out there in a similar situation, so I want to share my research and cleaning tips with anyone who needs them!

3 Simple, Carpet-Cleaning Solutions For Removing Pet Urine Stains

Whether you are potty-training a puppy or dealing with accidents from an older dog, maintaining clean, appealing floors with a dog can be difficult. Considering most people will not invest in professional carpet cleaning each time their dog has an accident, learning how to complete quick cleanups after their dog has an accident is important. With these solutions, you will learn a few effective solutions for removing dog urine and urine odors from your carpet.

Dish Soap

You may be surprised to learn a little dish soap and warm water can do wonders for your carpet after the dog's accident.

To get started, add a few drops of dish soap to a bowl of warm water. Pour a small amount of the soapy solution onto the affected area of the carpet. Then, use a microfiber cloth or towel to blot up as much of the urine and soapy solution as possible.

The soap and water will not only remove the urine odor, but it will also reduce the risk of actual carpet stains.

Baking Soda

Baking soda is another effective option for removing urine stains and odors in your carpet, especially if the urine has been sitting and lingering throughout the night or day.

Sprinkle a few teaspoons of baking soda directly over the damp area of the carpet. Let the baking soda sit for a few hours or overnight. This allows the baking soda to absorb the urine while deodorizing the urine smell from the carpet.

After the baking soda has had time to sit and soak into the carpet fibers, use a soft-bristled brush to loosen any hard areas of baking soda clumps. Then, use your vacuum to remove the leftover baking soda debris.

Vinegar

Finally, if you have a dog, make sure to stock your cabinets with white vinegar. The acidic properties of white vinegar are antibacterial, so this common household ingredient can be an effective option for cleaning urine and fecal waste from your carpet and rugs.

To use, soak up any wet areas of urine from the carpet using paper towels or a microfiber cloth. Then, mix half water and half white vinegar in a spray bottle. Shake to ensure the water and vinegar combine thoroughly. Spray the affected area of carpet with the vinegar solution. Use a soft-bristled brush to scrub the vinegar and water deep into the carpet fibers. The vinegar will help remove the urine and any odors left behind from your pet.

If none of these options work, then it is time to call a carpet cleaning service to take care of the stain for you.
